Reading is not his thing
Never one to pick up a book, Alex finds himself inundated with reading and writing assignments in 9th grade. Mevo Teachers can help Alex learn how to read strategically, annotate, identify important passages to ace quizzes and do the legwork for planning for his essays.
-
"I have nothing to write"
Lizzie finished reading the essay writing prompt and looked at a 3,000 foot rock face in front of her. ““How am I going to scale this mountain when I don’t have an idea?” Mevo Teachers help Lizzie brainstorm and rehearse her ideas, so she begins to see that writing is not an unscalable task, but an extension of one’s orally expressed ideas.

Already falling behind on her work and feeling like she is drowning, Stacy receives a reading and written assignment that makes her anxious. Even though she has three weeks to complete both parts, Stacy is feeling lost and overwhelmed. Mevo Teachers can help her to understand what is being asked, develop a timeline for tasks and assist her with the reading and writing to complete the task.

The Master of Procrastination
Elias knows his creative History project is due in one week, but he is just too exhausted when he comes home to start working on the project. Saturdays and Sunday, he sleeps late, and he crams all of his homework into four hours late on Sunday. Mevo Teachers can help Elias work on his project even when he is tired after a long day at school. We are available from 7pm to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and Friday and Sunday mornings to work with Elias.

"I got this!"
Eli is the class maven during literature discussions, but the minute he is on his own forced to write down his ideas, Eli can not focus and produce a written response. Mevo Teachers will guide Eli in writing compelling and varied sentences, and composing paragraphs which hook the reader, include vivid vocabulary, and tell a story.
What Our Students and Parents Say…
My 36-year-old son was Mr. B’s camper at our local day camp and then his long-time student at YESS!. Mr. B always saw beyond my son’s learning disabilities and celebrated, rather, his essence as a young person. I believe deeply and profoundly that my son and his close classmates, today all husbands, fathers, and contributors to their respective communities, are where they are as successful adults because of the wise, intuitive, and informed way Seth taught them and the passionate and engaged mentor and role model he was for them.

Struggling to express myself has always been my biggest weakness when it comes to writing. Through my eight years of education (and counting), no teacher nor tutor has taught me so much about writing as Mr. C (Alan Caro) has. There are no hard-to-understand concepts or grueling forms of vocabulary but simple ways of learning taught in the best ways possible. Thank you , Mr. C for making writing and English in general so much fun to learn.

Mr. B (Seth Brender) has been tutoring my incoming 6th grade daughter for the last year. When we met him, my daughter was really struggling with reading comprehension and reading fluency. In the last year, my daughter jumped five reading levels from M to R and her confidence has grown tremendously. She used to say that she was a “bad learner” and that she would never catch up to her classmates. Now she actually enjoys reading and has gained the skills to break down the text, thanks to Mr. B.
Working with Mr. B has been the best decision we’ve made!

I highly recommend Mr. C to any parents looking for a writing tutor for their children. I hired him during the Covid period to help my son improve his writing skills. I am so happy I did. My teenage son attended school online during the height of the pandemic. I had concerns at that time that he would not be able to get in-depth writing instruction through his online program. Mr. C. helped my son learn to identify major themes in books, develop those themes through evidence in the books, outline the themes and evidence and, finally, to transform the outline into a well-structured essay. We’ve continued to work with Mr. C ever since. He’s been a great tutor and friend to my son.
